In the West Indies' Lucayan Archipelago is the Bahamas. It's a country that takes up over 95% of the archipelago's combined land area and provides home to most of the population in the archipelagic state. It belongs with the other islands, islets, and cays in the Atlantic. Bordering it are Cuba, the Caicos and Turks Islands, and the Florida Keys.
Because of its tourism and offshore finance industries, the Bahamas is one of the wealthiest countries in the American region. It's a famous vacation spot, with picture-perfect beaches, striking crystal waters, colorful marine life, eclectic cuisine, and luxury resorts.
